Video: Monotypes in Action

Have you looked at my art work and thought "How does she do that?" I know my methods are a bit unusual and I often get asked about them by visitors to my studio. I've tried explaining in words but I can see in their eyes that I've lost them!

So I'm delighted to be able to bring you a 5 minute video that gives an overview of my work on a new series of monotypes (unique printed paintings). It doesn't explain everything but you'll see what's involved. I really hope it gives you an insight into how I go about creating my work. It condenses down a month's work so please forgive me if it's a bit brisk!

At the time of making the video this collection of nine monotypes was about two thirds complete (I work across all the sheets of paper rather than one at a time). So I'll have to follow up with another video and some photos of how they all turned out. To be sure to see my new work and latest videos please join my list to get updates. I always give the first opportunity to purchase to my subscribers. Unframed originals can be posted internationally, flat-packed, very securely.

My process is completely unique (as far as I know) developed over many years of trial and error. As I'm working in reverse, in layers, over several sheets simultaneously, it takes quite a bit of practice!

What I love about this medium is the range of marks I can make that are completely unlike anything you could do with a paint brush. The crisp edges and rich yet translucent colour add to the allure. It's a challenge to interpret real landscapes using these unique properties and the results can be unpredictable. Keeps me on the edge of my seat!

Your can find out more about monotypes on my techniques page.
